The nation’s healthcare delivery system can be divided into two main categories, according to the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF): public and private.

The government’s public healthcare system, or Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in rural regions, provides basic healthcare services.

Mainly in metros and tier-I and tier-II cities, the private sector operates most secondary, tertiary, and quaternary healthcare facilities.

According to the IBEF, surgery in India costs around one-tenth of what it does in the United States or Western Europe. It also notes that the nation’s medical tourism industry has grown due to the low cost of healthcare.
